4 million pass through Beitbridge boarder post over the holiday

According to immigration statistics, last year 4 188 833 travellers passed through Beitbridge on both entry and exit side surpassing the 2009 figures when 2 313 188 people passed through the border post.

The assistant regional immigration manager at the Beitbridge Border Post, Mrs Tamari Shadaya, attributed last year’s increase in travellers to South Africa’s move to regularise the stay of Zimbabwean illegal immigrants under a one-year special dispensation granted to locals by
South Africa.

Zimbabweans were given up to 31 December to apply for permits.
