4 wrestlers for World Junior Champs

FOUR junior wrestlers are set to participate in this year’s Junior World Championships in France next month. Zimbabwe Wrestling Federation interim secretary Tapiwa Masinire confirmed the development and said his association was confident the athletes will bring medals back home.

“We are sending four wrestlers for the World Junior Championships to be held in France next month.

“This is going to be our first time to participate at the tournament but I am confident the team will bring home medals.

“The guys are ready to exploit the opportunity and they have been training hard since February without having any chances to showcase their talent,” he said.

Of the four, Junior Mashaire (19) and Josam Chirimuta (18), will compete in the freestyle category while the other one, who is yet to be named, will take part in Greco Romeo.

One female representative will also be determined by next week.

Meanwhile, the ZWF have introduced a new wrestling style called belt wrestling.
