There were also about 18 reported cases of crime compared to last year where police only recorded two cases of theft, two minor car accidents and two cases of fraud.

In an interview yesterday, Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Mandlenkosi Moyo said the event was held in a calm environment except for cases of theft .

“We arrested 40 people during the trade fair this year and received about 18 reports of crime. Of the 18 reports, 17 were for theft and one case of malicious damage to property. I do not have comparative statistics for other years, but I can assure you that things were a bit calm. These figures received do not include road accidents,” said Insp Moyo.

He appealed to exhibitors and members of the public to safeguard their property to avoid losing it.

“In a majority of cases, people left items like cellphones and laptops unattended and thieves pounced. People should understand that thieves always target cellphones, handbags and gadgets like laptops,” said Insp Moyo.
