DeMbare won’t fire Pasuwa

DeMbare were mauled 6-0 by Tunisian giants Esperance in the Caf Champions League second round first leg match played in Tunisia on Saturday.

The Harare side’s technical bench has tried to save face by blaming poor officiating from the Guinean referee Yakhouba Keita.

It was Dynamos’ heaviest defeat in recent memory and there are already fears that they might bow out of the competition with a double figure aggregate defeat.

Man of the moment Takesure Chinyama was a pale shadow of himself and could not direct a single shot at goal throughout the game. Dynamos were last humiliated by such a huge scoreline in 1987 when they fell 7-1 to their Harare rivals Caps United.

Esperance played and beat Highlanders by the same scoreline in 2003 in a match that saw Bosso bow out 7-1 on aggregate after a spine- chilling blunder by Tapuwa Kapini gifted the Tunisians with an         undeserved equaliser at Barbourfields Stadium.

Dynamos chairman Kenny Mubaiwa said during an interview yesterday that people have been putting a lot of pressure on him yet his executive had done all that was possible for the technical team to bring positive results.

“We are not going to bring in a new face right now but we want  Pasuwa to finish off this mess and then perhaps we will look at his future. We have big local games coming up before those Tunisians come to Harare so it’s only logical that Pasuwa sees us through,” said Mubaiwa.

He said in the event that Pasuwa throws in the towel upon arrival from Tunisia, the executive would have no option but to accept the resignation, hinting that knives were indeed out for Pasuwa who was part of the class of 1998 that reached and lost in the Champions League final to Asec Mimosa.

“The defeat really embarrassed us as a family. It has also tarnished the executive’s image and one hopes that it will not transform into a dismal league performance,” said Mubaiwa. Dynamos play league debutants Buffaloes at Sakubva Stadium on Thursday before playing host to Hwange at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday.

Speculation has been rife that some kingmakers at the 2011 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League champions want to bring in former Warriors and Monomotapa championship winning coach Norman Mapeza.

Zambian Keegan Mumba’s name has also been touted.
