Moreblessing Ncube
A BULAWAYO man who had planned a quick morning romp got more than he bargained for after paying a sex worker only to walk away with bruises and empty pockets.
Letwin Dube (39) and her alleged muscle-for-hire, Emmanuel Ncube (30), found themselves in the dock facing assault and robbery charges after they allegedly bashed and robbed Alton Shumba (51) of his hard-earned five bucks.
According to State prosecutor Joseph Rugara, the early morning drama unfolded around 5am on April 11, near First Avenue and Fort Street. Shumba, no stranger to the street scene and the bossoms for hire, approached Dube, who he knew from the area, and struck a US$5 deal for adult services.
Cash was paid upfront. Game on, or so he thought.
But before action could begin, Ncube suddenly appeared and knocked on the door. Dube quickly stepped outside to talk to him, leaving Shumba hanging. Sensing something fishy, Shumba followed and demanded a refund since the “service” had not been rendered.
Dube allegedly told him to forget it. Ncube, playing the role of a street bouncer, reportedly slapped Shumba several times. When slaps weren’t enough, Ncube allegedly grabbed a stick and gave Shumba a vicious beating on the head and back, shouting at him to leave Dube alone.
Shumba was left injured, confused, and still down five dollars. The money was never recovered.
The pair was later nabbed and dragged to court where they were charged with assault and robbery. They were both remanded out of custody to June 11 by Bulawayo Magistrate Maxwell Ncube.
Locals say the First Avenue area has long been a red-light hotspot, but now, with beatdowns being served instead of bedroom deals, punters might want to think twice before flashing their green.
