$500 000 PPE boost for police

The Pan African Development Foundation (PANAD) last week handed over personal protective equipment (PPE) and other critical medical equipment worth $500 000 to Harare Central Police Station to help strengthen its Covid-19 response.

The donation included protective suits, foot baths, masks, respirators, face shields and other medical supplies.  PANAD is planning to make similar donations to different police stations countrywide.

ZRP is among organisations offering crucial essential services during the Covid-19 lockdown.

Officer commanding Harare province, Commissioner Charles Nhete, applauded the organisation for the donation.

“Your donation will go a long way in helping our police officers, as well as members of the public who on a daily basis throng police premises during this time when we are fighting this pandemic,” he said.  “We thank you very much for such a selfless gesture.”

Comm Nhete said many police officers were exposed to the risks of contracting Covid-19 due to the nature of their jobs.

“We thank you for heeding the call by the President for the corporate world and individuals to partner Government in combating the spread of the disease,” he said.

Comm Nhete said ZRP will continue engaging the public on all matters that affected their lives.

Handing over the donations, PANAD chairman Mr Ignatius Pamire said the pandemic was now an enemy to mankind and needed collective action.

“We appreciate that for the ZRP to efficiently play its role in the fight against the pandemic it needs all the assistance and support it can get, as its officers are continuously exposed to this invisible enemy whose spread must be broken in order to contain and control it,” he said.

Mr Pamire said it was no secret that Zimbabwe was now part of the global community under severe implications of the pandemic.
