53 get Algerian scholarships

ceremony held for 53 students who are leaving today to study various science degree programmes at different universities in Algeria.
Of the 53 students who were given scholarships, 17 are female, while 36 are male. “Algeria has the highest number of Zimbabweans on bilateral scholarships compared to other friendly countries,” said Minister Chombo.
“We take pride in the knowledge that our students will benefit from the Algerian education system, especially in the critical scientific researches and academic excellence. This gives Zimbabweans a chance to come back home to take their rightful place in the growth and expansion of our economy.”
Minister Chombo applauded the students for choosing to further their education. “The students have a passion for advancing their education, which is a typical Zimbabwean aspiration and have been selected at the backdrop of inadequate human capital in critical shortage areas in the sciences and technology,” he said.
“Students who are already in Algeria have over the years been referred to as disciplined, committed, focused and hardworking. Each one has a responsibility to Zimbabwe at all times.” Minister Chombo told the students to remain focused on studying and not interfere in political affairs of other countries.
Algerian Ambassador to Zimbabwe Mr Lazar Soualem said the students should not be distracted by challenges they would face. “There could be some conditions which they are not used to and it must not deter them from studying. What they study must be ploughed back into the nation on their return.”
