54 suspects netted during Easter

“We launched an operation to curb crime at the border during the Easter holiday and we arrested 54 suspects, 16 of which are linked to notorious robber syndicates that have been terrorising residents,” said Chief Supt Chinhengo.

He said the suspects would appear in court soon.
Chief Supt Chinhengo said they had deployed officers in all strategic points, which include the border post, Dulibadzimu Bus Terminus and major highways to flush out

criminals and touts, who normally capitalise on the commotion during the peak period to rob travellers.
“We are continuing with the operation and we have since intensified patrols along major highways to clamp down on robbers targeting motorists,” he said.

Several motorists have in the past fallen prey to highway robbers who waylay them on bushy areas along major roads.
“As police we also advise motorists to desist from parking at secluded areas or lay-byes situated in bushy areas to avoid being mugged by highway robbers,” he said.
