IN one of the most shocking cases of sodomy, a 54-year-old man from Nkwizhu Line, Sipepa in Tsholotsho, Matabeleland North Province was arrested for allegedly engaging in sodomy with a 16-year-old boy for nearly a year. He then made a chilling confession that he had never been involved with a woman in his entire life and had only had sex with men.

Gorden Moyo was arrested after the boy who was now spending much of his time with him at his homestead engaging in sodomy was questioned by his family and revealed that Moyo “made him go into his bed and sleep with him” on multiple occasions.

In exchange for the “unnatural encounters,” Moyo was giving the boy money ranging from 20 rand to 80 rand. Court documents say that sometime in August 2023, the boy went to Nkwizhu Business Centre. There, he was approached by Moyo and given 20 rand. Moyo instructed the boy to visit him at his homestead that day, but the boy did not go.

The following morning, Moyo went to the boy’s homestead and took him to his place. Upon arrival, the seemingly unsuspicious boy entered Moyo’s bedroom and sat on the bed. Moyo then gave him 80 rand and instructed him to remove his clothes, lie on the bed and not mind what was going to happen and the boy complied.

Moyo is alleged to then have sodomised the boy. After the act, Moyo gave the boy 40 rand and he subsequently returned home.

On another day within the same month, Moyo went to the boy’s homestead and took him to his place where he sexually abused him in the same manner. The boy was now rarely at home as he was spending more time with Moyo at his homestead.

Moyo reportedly continued abusing the boy on various occasions since then until 21 July 2024. On that date, the boy’s stepmother enquired about his relationship with Moyo, prompting the boy to disclose the entire ordeal, leading to his arrest.

Moyo has since appeared before Tsholotsho resident magistrate, Lesigo Ngwenya charged with sodomy as defined in Section 73 (3) (c) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23.

He was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to August 2 at Regional Court B in Bulawayo. Prosecutor Sheila Mpofu appeared for the State.
