Over 6.54 million people have benefited in the third blitz of food distribution being rolled out by Government to the food insecure and vulnerable people around the country.
Cabinet on Tuesday considered and noted the Report on the Food Deficit Mitigation Strategy, the Urban Cash Transfer Programme and the Movement of Grain as presented by the Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, July Moyo.
In a post-Cabinet briefing, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr Jenfan Muswere said the third blitz in terms of food distribution commenced on November 01, 2024 targeting 6.54 million beneficiaries starting with those who had not received during the second blitz of food distribution.
Of the 6 563 119 beneficiaries, 1 223 732 were from Manicaland, 762 290 in Mashonaland Central, 960 526 in Mashonaland East, 867 642 in Mashonaland West, 969 470 in Masvingo, 524 713 in Matabeleland North, 343 658 in Matabeleland South and 911 088 in Midlands.

Dr Muswere added: “Under the Zunde RaMambo/Isiphala SeNkosi Programme, a cumulative total of 4 362.51 mt of grain has been collected by Chiefs across the country in order to cater for the members of society. Under the Urban-Cash-for-CerealsProgramme, 27 877 beneficiaries have been reached with cash disbursements as at 25 October 2024.”
He said the Emergency Schools Feeding Programme continues to be part of the Food
Distribution Programme, as learners are having their hot meals on a daily basis.
The Minister said as at 10 November, 2024, a cumulative total of 19 091.28 metric tonnes mealie meal/maize grain had been collected under the programme.
The Government’s efforts reflect a commitment to addressing food insecurity and supporting vulnerable communities through comprehensive food distribution and cash transfer initiatives.
