Government has distributed more than 60 tractors to farmers in Mashonaland West and Central provinces under the Zunde Ramambo programme to boost Zimbabwe’s food security. Addressing heads of ministries and principal directors recently at a strategic retreat workshop in Harare, Chief Secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet, Dr Misheck Sibanda said the project would immensely contribute in boosting the country’s agriculture sector.
“We have just launched the Zunde Ramambo tillage programme. We started it in Mashonaland West province in Zvimba where we distributed 21 tractors,” Dr Sibanda said.
“We are now in Mashonaland Central province. We have to do something thanks to secretary (Mr Partson) Mbiriri. We had some tractors lying idle, which we reconditioned and distributed. Now we have 40 more to be distributed in Mashonaland Central.”
He said the tractors were initially meant for the jatropha programme.
Dr Sibanda noted that such farming implements were key in advancing any country’s agriculture sector.
