Bus operators warned

Herald Reporter
GOVERNMENT has cracked the whip on errant bus operators in Buhera after it emerged that they were operating outside their timetables, a situation that resulted in villagers being exposed to hyenas attacks. This followed complaints raised by Buhera South Member of National Assembly, Cde Joseph Chinotimba (Zanu-PF) that buses plying Harare-Buhera route were travelling at night exposing villagers to hyena attacks.

This followed recent incidents in the constituency where three people were severely attacked by hyenas and are now recovering in hospital.
Commissioner of Road Motor Transportation in the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development, Mrs Joy Mathema warned the operators that they risk losing their permits if they failed to adhere to their timetable.

“I have received reports of serious cases of violation of bus timetables, with buses operating at night in the above district. This has resulted in people walking at night and being attacked by wild animals,” wrote Mrs Mathema in a letter dated September 19 addressed to the Zimbabwe Republic Police Commissioner General, Augustine Chihuri.
