60-year-old woman in court for assaulting son’s girlfriend

A 60- year old Bulawayo woman who allegedly assaulted and poured hot water on her son’s girlfriend accusing her of being a ‘witch’ appeared in court facing physical abuse charges.
Barbra Ndlovu of Nketa suburb was not asked to plead when she appeared before Western Commonage magistrate, Mrs Lenia Khumalo.
She was remanded out of custody on free bail to February 4.
According to the state case presented by prosecutor, Ms Mandrela Chisiiwa, the incident occurred on the 18th of this month.
The complainant, Ms Martha Sibanda visited Ndlovu’s house to see her boyfriend who is Ndlovu’s son.
Ms Chisiiwa said while Ms Sibanda was in her boyfriend’s bedroom, the accused unexpectedly entered the room.
She then started accusing the complainant of being a witch saying she had bewitched her son.
The complainant moved out of the room and as she was leaving the house, the accused allegedly poured hot water on her neck resulting in her sustaining burns, the court heard.
Ms Chisiiwa said the accused thereafter assaulted the complainant using a mug.
