600 number plates uncollected

Sunday Mail Reporter

THERE are over 600 unclaimed vehicle number plates at the Central Vehicle Registry (CVR) and motorists who applied between January 2020 and December 2021 have been urged to come forward and collect them.

Early this year, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development launched a blitz to clear the backlog in processing vehicle registration plates.

Permanent Secretary Engineer Theodius Chinyanga has since advised “all those who applied within the stated period to visit their respective CVR offices for collection”.

CVR has in the past been plagued by corruption as those applying for registration plates or driver’s licence discs were required to pay bribes for their applications to be processed timeously.

Government subsequently clamped down on the malpractices.

Police has joined hands with CVR to ensure that all vehicles are registered.

Over 48 755 people have so far been arrested for driving unregistered vehicles.
