OVER 600 suspected drug dealers and their clients have been arrested since Friday in the operation ‘No to dangerous drugs and illicit substances’.

In a statement, national police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, said 277 people countrywide were arrested on Monday alone.

“The operation ‘No to dangerous drugs and illicit substances’ has seen a cumulative arrest of 636 so far,” said Ass Comm Nyathi.

One of the drug dealers based at an open space opposite Food World along Enterprise Road in Eastlea, Harare, only identified as Handsome, is reportedly on the run.

An Eastlea resident told H-Metro that Handsome grouped with some drug addicts in attacking people at night in Eastlea.

“Handsome is now a threat to people’s lives in Eastlea. Recently, one of the vendors was found dead close to his base.

“He has a team of drug addicts who attack and rob people at night.

“We are appealing for police visibility, especially at night, in order to flush them off,” said an Eastlea resident.
