Zimbabwe number one tennis player, Benjamin Lock, said they are going to regroup and keep pushing as a team after losing the Davis Cup World Group II play-off against Uruguay in Harare.
Lock said they were fearless approaching this tie and are optimistic that they will win their next encounters.
He believes the team can eventually turn things around.
“Our mindset going to the tie was fearless and I think we saw that through the weekend. In sports, you have to keep on fighting and I am sure the results will be in our favour next time,” he said.
“We have a new team and a new captain. We had young guys as well.
“Uruguay have good players led by a good captain and they played the best tennis possible against us, so for us being two points from beating them to win the tie shows what the team is capable of.
“Throughout the week, we really had amazing practices and fantastic structures. We will have another chance and we will be back.”
Lock is grateful to all stakeholders for the support they gave the team.
“I would like to thank everyone who came for the four long days. It was an amazing environment for all of us to play in and be part of.
“It’s important for us when stakeholders promote our team, which promotes the sport at large. I think it’s an exciting time.
“We have great leadership. We have Takanyi here. He has done wonderful things. We have Courtney, and Mehluli as well.
“These guys are young and have not played in many Davis Cup ties in their careers.
“We are very happy with the way things are.
“There has to be a loser and it was us. Apart from that, it was a success and we thank everyone who came after the rain delays.“
