A TOTAL of 62 000 healthcare workers under the Health Ambassadors for Economic Development Towards Vision 2030 (Health Ambassadors4ED) have thrown their weight behind Constitutional Amendment Bill Number 3 (CAB #3).

The healthcare workers submitted petitions from all the country’s 10 provinces to Parliament on Wednesday, signalling overwhelming support from the sector.

Speaking to hundreds of healthcare professionals at Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital today, provincial coordinator Mr Noah Tsvaka said the organisation was firmly aligned with the Government’s development agenda and fully supported the Bill.

“We are unequivocally behind the leadership of President Mnangagwa and his Vision 2030. As healthcare workers, we believe CAB #3 is a progressive step that will enhance national development and stability,” said Mr Tsvaka.

He said the proposed changes would have a direct positive impact on the health sector, particularly in improving service delivery.

“By extending the electoral cycle, the country will save significant financial resources that are usually directed towards elections. These resources can instead be channelled towards critical sectors such as health, where they are urgently needed,” he said.

Mr Tsvaka added that healthcare workers were grateful to the Government for addressing some of the long-standing challenges affecting their welfare and working conditions.

“As a sector, we have seen the Government responding to our concerns. We appreciate the engagement and the commitment shown in improving our working environment, and this gives us confidence in supporting this bill,” he said.

A registered nurse, Mr Tafadzwa Tichapondwa, said the endorsement of CAB #3 was informed by the need for policy continuity and the fulfilment of national development goals.

“This bill ensures continuity in leadership and programmes that are already transforming lives. Disruptions caused by frequent electoral cycles can slow down progress, and we want to see these initiatives reaching full implementation,” Mr Tichapondwa said.

Other healthcare workers who attended the meeting echoed similar sentiments, expressing confidence that the proposed two-year term extension would allow President Mnangagwa to fully implement his development agenda, including improvements in their livelihoods.

The health sector’s endorsement comes as Parliament concludes nationwide consultations on CAB #3 today.

In Mashonaland West, residents from all seven districts resoundingly supported the Bill during consultations held from Monday to yesterday, reflecting growing nationwide backing for the proposed constitutional amendment.
