A total of 68 soldiers on Friday graduated to become platoon sergeants after completing a 19-week tactics training course at Induna Barracks on the outskirts in Bulawayo.

The officers comprised three women and 65 men. Speaking at the graduation ceremony, the reviewing officer, Deputy Commander 1 Infantry Brigade Colonel Simo Maseko said he was pleased that the officers managed to sail through the course.

“I am happy to announce that all the 68 students managed to sail through without any hassles. I am reliably informed that they all managed to assimilate the concepts that were delivered to them by the instructional team. No one dropped out due to ill health or indiscipline,” said Col Maseko.

Sergeant Mutsure Munyaradzi was the best student while Sgt Nyamandu Michael was second best student followed by Sgt Tasiyana Judith.

He said the course would enhance the officers’ professional knowledge and ability to command, control and administer troops under their command both in peace and war time.

Col Maseko said the course comes at a time when the economy is still to recover from the effects of the illegal sanctions imposed by some Western countries.

“I can say that today it was a junior kind of platoon sergeants graduation, we are having more graduations coming up before the end of the year,” he said.

The graduands were trained on how to properly manage and account for platoon weapons, equipment, ammunition and other resources and also to assist platoon commanders in training personnel under command.
