7 minutes with V Candy!…She loves talking about relationships…But is she still on the market?

Lawrence Moyo

BORN Nonhlanhla Tutani, popular Star FM presenter Miss V Candy has established herself as one of the best in her field and has seen her brand expand to become an international emcee, travel-ling to as far as the United States for events.

She hosts the Morning Galaxy show every weekday between 9am and midday and despite her busy schedule, I managed to “detain” her for exactly seven minutes and posed 10 questions about her 2024 experience.

Below is how the conversation went:

QUESTION: How has been 2024 for V Candy?

ANSWER: 2024 started on a really busy note, I hit the ground running from January, the schedule was really packed, booked and busy. So it has been really amazing for me but then hectic some-times, because of that work-life balance, where you are grateful for the opportunities but you also get to a point where you feel a bit depleted, which is it is important to manage that work-life bal-ance as well.

Q: What has been the Most memorable day so far?

A: Most memorable day…I guess I can’t pick one particular day to say it has been the most memo-rable but I have had different moments that have been fulfilling from career moments to mo-ments with family where I have ticked boxes in terms of my resolutions and goals for this year. So it has been in moments and I can’t pick out just one day that has been the most outstanding one but then collectively I have had really beautiful moments that I am grateful for and mostly with family as well.

Q: What would you rank as your lowest (worst) day?

A: My lowest day this year, I guess it’s the same with the most memorable day in that I can’t pick one day and say this has been the lowest day that stands out. It has been in different phases…I have had to accept that not all the days, when you look at you calendar, are going to be magnificent, joyful days. Some days are going to be your lows and your highs. I’ve had low moments of course but I’ve also learnt to pick myself up in any setbacks that I’ve faced this year.

Q: You have been flying all over the place, what have you been up to?

A: I’ve had a lot of travelling from the beginning of the year and it has been my work opening doors and making room for me and nations. I’ve been to America, the UK has become my second home, I’ve been to Ghana and it has been quite exciting and quite fulfilling as well to see my brand spreading out to other nations.

The Zim community in the diaspora are also acknowledging my work and seeing it worthy to actually book an emcee who is based in Zimbabwe.

With events, what has been normal is to just book artists for entertainment and stuff but then for me I have been privileged to be able to spread out my wings and to also be on platforms and stages that are beyond the nation and it has been truly remarkable, I am grateful.

Q: What has been your biggest lesson(s) in your 2024 grinds?

A: My biggest lesson this year is to be appreciative of the small steps. I know that we all have resolutions and goals that we set wet for ourselves and sometimes we bite big chunks that we can’t then manage. It is important to pace yourself and take the small steps, they matter. Small progress matters if you are to reach a destination and if you are to fulfil your purpose here on earth its in the small, intentional steps that you make every day. So that was my biggest lesson this year, to then just wake up and cover the small ground, make progress and not be discouraged when the big things do not work out.

Q: What haven’t you done that you must do between now and December 31?

A: What have I not done this year. Oh my goodness… I really set big goals for myself this year and I am glad to say I have managed to do a lot of what I intended and anticipated. And also on the back-side I dint manage to cover some of the essentials that I thought I would cover this year so I am looking at the last quarter of the year, I am not sure that I will be able to cover everything but I will touch on or two things that I neglected, left out or gave up on. “

Q: Do you believe in Resolutions? And if yes, what were your 2024 resolutions and how far have you gone?

A: I do believe in resolutions but in the form of goal setting. Unlike when we were young when you just pick a piece of paper and just write down different things that you didn’t even know how you would achieve those goals. I believe in goal setting to then work on how I intend to achieve those goals. So at the start of this year I have things that I have set for myself. The word of God says write your vision and make it plain.

I believe in writing things down, making it plain and working towards achieving them in terms of the short term and long term goals. This year I set goals, you call them resolutions, for myself and I am happy with the progress that I have made and in some way I am also trying to not beat myself too much on the things that I failed to do but then to know that I can still cover some ground be-fore the year ends.

Career wise I am happy, there are things I would have wanted to do more in terms of my personal brand and growth and also pushing my brand beyond myself but there is still more time and I won’t just be limited by the calendar but to know that growth is a continuous process.

Q: You seem to love discussing relationships both on air and social media, why is that?

A: In my head I am such a behavioural scientist, I study behaviour and I feel I understand the terrain of relationships just by observing from other people how they think, why they do what they do in a psychological way. I actually really love talking about relationships from a place that I feel I understand relationships without a bias but balance when it comes to the reality of it where it’s not just me bashing men or bashing women.

But then to just understand the behavioural science behind relationships so I enjoy it a lot from just observing. Trying to understand the mind of men, which fascinates me from my interactions with friends or just by observation and personal experience as well. I have an understanding that I believe makes sense.

Q: If you were not a radio presenter, what would you be?

A: If I wasn’t a radio presenter I would be in governance, politics because I actually studied politics, that was my first degree. It’s a space that fascinates me as well, governance to be specific.

Q: Is V Candy on the market?

A: Keep watching this space (laugh). I will not answer in a sentence, keep watching this space. I guess I will be sharing more of my life soon when it comes to that aspect so that people are not second guessing or just assuming so keep watching this space more.
