The post fell vacant following the suspension of Cde John Mafa after the provincial leadership passed a vote of no confidence in his leadership.
Cde Robert Sikanyika, who replaced him in an acting capacity, died in a car accident in Chegutu early this year.
Acting chairperson Cde Reuben Marumahoko, former Information Deputy Minister Cde Bright Matonga, State Enterprises and Parastatals Deputy Minister Walter Chidakwa and Cde Mafa are among the contestants.
Zanu-PF Zvimba co-ordinating committee member, Cde Joseph Chirongoma, Cde Betty Biri and Cde Mehlomakulu have also shown interest in the post.
In an interview yesterday, Cde Marumahoko said the provincial elections would be held on the sidelines of the provincial inter district conference to be held at Selous Sports Club on Friday. He said the meeting was in accordance with the party’s constitution, which stipulates that such meetings be held at least twice a year.
“The purpose of this meeting is to discuss issues within our province through districts. The meetings should be held twice a year and we should have done the first one in March, but we failed due to lack of resources,” he said.
Cde Marumahoko said they were expecting slightly more than 1 000 delegates at the conference.

Among the delegates, Cde Marumahoko said, would be Politburo, Central Committee and National Consultative Assembly members.
He said they had also sent a request to President Mugabe seeking permission he holds a star rally on November 13.
“We have requested from President Mugabe to have a star rally on the 13th and we are still waiting for confirmation,” he said.
Cde Marumahoko said they will also elect a new provincial chairperson for the Women’s League following the death Cde Chiratidzo Gava.
Acting chairperson Cde Sarah Mahoka would square off with Cde Constance Shamu for that post.
Cde Marumahoko said other posts that would be filled at Friday’s meeting are those of vice chairman, secretary for administration and treasurer.
The vice chairmanship post was left vacant by Cde Franco Ndambakuwa who was suspended together with Cde Mafa, while that of secretary for administration was left by vacant by Cde Sikanyika who had assumed the chairmanship position in an acting capacity.
Cde Philip Chiyangwa who was recently readmitted into the party was barred by the Politburo from contesting for any position at the moment.
