THE City of Kings and Queens has witnessed one of the most epic events in the country’s entertainment scene — the Bulawayo Shutdown!
For seven years, it has been a non-stop celebration with fervent support from the city and beyond.

To mark this milestone, the organisers, Harris Entertainment, have launched what is now being called Bulawayo Shutdown 2.0, the first-ever December gig from the franchise.

The Shutdown, which began as a humble gathering of music lovers, has evolved into a full-blown extravaganza, showcasing the best of local talent. We’re talking about 22 of the hottest local acts, including Jah Prayzah, Sandra Ndebele, Mzoe 7, Winky D, and Freeman!

But here’s the thing—the Shutdown isn’t just about the music. It’s about the vibe, the energy, the community. It’s about Bulawayo coming together to celebrate its rich culture and heritage.

Let’s be real, the Shutdown has become a major player in the city’s entertainment scene. It’s the event that everyone looks forward to, twice a year! That’s right, folks, the Shutdown now takes place not only in April but also in December!

“We’re thrilled to see how the Shutdown has grown over the years,” said the organisers. “It’s become a staple of Bulawayo’s entertainment scene, and we’re proud to be a part of it. We’re committed to continuing to bring the best of local talent to the stage and to creating an unforgettable experience for our fans.”

The Shutdown’s success can be attributed to its unique formula, which combines great music, good vibes, and a sense of community. It’s an event that brings people together, regardless of their age, background, or interests.

“We’ve worked hard to create an event that’s inclusive and fun for everyone,” said the organisers. “We want the Shutdown to be an event that people look forward to all year round, and we’re committed to making it bigger and better every year.”

The Shutdown’s impact on the local music scene cannot be overstated. It has provided a platform for local artists to showcase their talent and has helped to launch the careers of several notable musicians.

“The Shutdown has been a game-changer for the local music scene. It’s given local artistes the opportunity to perform in front of a large audience and has helped to promote Zimbabwean music to a wider audience,” said Phumulani Njini, who has attended all seven previous editions.

The Shutdown’s growth and success have also had a positive impact on the local economy. The event attracts thousands of visitors to Bulawayo every year, generating revenue for local businesses and creating jobs for event staff and vendors.

“The Shutdown has become a major contributor to the local economy. We’re proud to be playing a role in promoting economic growth and development in Bulawayo. We’re excited to see what the future holds for the Shutdown.

“We’re committed to continuing to bring the best of local talent to the stage and to creating an unforgettable experience for our fans. The Shutdown is more than just an event — it’s a movement, and we’re proud to be a part of it,” said the organisers.
