OVER 700 000 children have been immunised against measles, latest statistics show.

According to the Measles Situation Report published by the Ministry of Health and Child Care yesterday, the vaccinations covered children, aged between six months and 59 months. The Government is administering the measles vaccine and Vitamin A supplement in all provinces under the Supplementary Immunisation Activity campaign. Overall, 702 168 children have received the measles vaccine, while 477 522 have received Vitamin A supplements.

“The country is in the process of administering the measles vaccine and Vitamin A supplement to children aged between 6 months and 59 months as part of strategies to contain the measles outbreak,” said the Ministry of Health and Child Care in a statement.

“As of 6 September, 107 suspected new cases and six deaths were reported in Masvingo.”
