AN MDC-T councillor and 75 MDC-T supporters have defected to Zanu-PF after openly denouncing the opposition party as useless.
Clr Amon Nyathi of Shape area in Gwanda North constituency has rejoined the revolutionary party together with 75 other MDC-T supporters saying they had realised that MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai was a failure.

The defectors were welcomed back to the revolutionary party by senior party officials in the district led by the Minister of State for Matabeleland South Provincial Affairs Cde Abedinico Ncube. Clr Nyathi said he had been lost all along but had since realised that Zanu-PF has the interests of people at heart.

“I was lost but I can’t continue to be astray. Lanxa umama ekhaya eke wapheka imboza kaxotshwa kodwa uyaqondiswa (A woman is not divorced for failing to prepare a proper meal, but she is corrected). Therefore, I have also corrected my mistake and I’m happy to be back home together with 75 supporters who were also members of MDC-T,” he said.

Clr Nyathi lambasted the MDC-T saying it has a selfish leadership with nothing to offer to the people, hence their defection.

“From the time I became councillor, no one in the MDC-T party bothered to even congratulate me. Zanu-PF has people oriented programmes aimed at developing the economy but MDC-T has done nothing for us, they are big failures and it is a useless party,” he said.
Clr Nyathi said he was committed to working with other Zanu-PF members in developing his area and also help strengthen the revolutionary party.

Gwanda North MP Cde Madodana Sibanda expressed his gratitude at being reunited with Clr Nyathi saying that it would pave way for enhanced development in the constituency.

“We will work together with a common purpose and dedication to improving livelihoods. We will ensure no one starves in this constituency,” he said.

The Provincial Minister, Cde Ncube commended Clr Nyathi and other defectors for taking a positive step by coming out openly in support of Zanu-PF.

“You did what is right by quickly realising that you were lost. We are rejoicing today because we are now moving in the same direction. We should remain united so that we are not shaken as a party,” he said.

Cde Ncube encouraged door-to-door campaigns to continue to lure more people into the revolutionary party. He said people should rally behind President Robert Mugabe who has promoted immense development in the country through sound policies.

“Our President has made everything good for us and we are blessed to have such a leader. We are proud of him and we should all rally behind him for the prosperity of the nation,” said Cde Ncube adding that the President’s good leadership qualities had been recognised by the whole of Africa through his chairmanship of both Sadc and the AU.
