8-year-old drowns on fishing expedition

AN-EIGHT-year old boy drowned in Nhomela River in Plumtree while fishing with his 10-year-old brother.

Njabulo Ngwenya of Mangubo Village under chief Madlambuzi drowned at around 6 PM on Sunday.

He left home with his brother Mkhokheli Ndlovu (10).

As they were fishing, they saw two big fish and Njabulo jumped into the river intending to catch them. He unfortunately drowned.

Mkhokheli rushed back to the village where he informed his family and villagers rushed to save Njabulo but they found him dead.

Matabeleland South police spokesperson Inspector Philisani Ndebele confirmed the drowning incident and said investigations were underway.

On Sunday, a six year old boy drowned in Umguza River between Bulawayo’s Mahatshula and Woodville suburbs while playing with friends.
