Niece rape accused awaits judgement

A BULAWAYO man allegedly raped his sister’s daughter after moving into her house, a court heard.

The man aged 41, pleaded not guilty before Bulawayo Regional Magistrate Mrs Sibongile Msipa-Marondedze who remanded him in custody to Tuesday for trial.

It is the State’s case that the man raped his niece who cannot be named for ethical reasons, on numerous occasions between September 2015 and August 2016.

Prosecuting, Miss Caroline Matanga told the court that in September last year,  the man moved into his sister’s house and since that time he would rape her daughter on several occasions.

“Accused would summon complainant to his bedroom on several occasions. He raped her between September 2015 and August 2016.

“The matter came to light when complainant’s grandmother saw her coming out of the accused person’s bedroom.

“She told her grandmother that accused person had raped her and the matter was reported to the police leading to his arrest,” said Miss Matanga.
