Nine Harare women have been fined US$30 each for advertising illegal massage and sexual services on social media.

Harare Magistrate Ms Winfilder Tiatara also imposed a three-month prison sentence, which was then suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.

The women – Natasha Makowe, Anne Mandaza, Ashley Nyamutsaka, Nyasha Mungate, Gamuchirai Dzvukutu, Ellen Chihota, Mola Manyange, Euno Chiwara, and Mukhtah Banda – pleaded guilty to charges under the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act.

Ms Tiatara said the accused persons are first-time offenders, with most of them aged between 18 and 20.

She reprimanded their actions, emphasising that prostitution is not a sustainable way of earning a living.

Ms Tiatara urged the women to pursue productive, lawful activities to improve their lives.
