A cheer for the less privileged

COMPANIES in the telecoms sector have donated blankets and groceries to 200 less-privileged people in Mudzi and Mt Darwin.

POTRAZ donated the groceries sourced from Econet, NetOne, National Building Society, Liquid Intelligent Technologies, Innovative Technologies, TelOne, Telco, ZB Bank and Fedex, during a charity golf tourney on June 16.

The beneficiaries were identified through the Department of Social Welfare in the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare.

The beneficiaries said they were grateful for the donations, and hoped for more to develop projects.

Taurai Bhechani from Mudzi said as someone with a physical disability, the donations would sustain his family for a while.

“I am disabled and cannot take care of myself. The donations will definitely change our lives. I have a wife and seven children.

“I hope in future they will avail funds for us to start projects, so that we can sustain ourselves,” he said. Another beneficiary said they considered the donation a blessing.

“I am delighted that there are people who consider sharing what they have with us.

“We are often looked down upon, but this recognition means that they have us at heart. I hope that they will take this initiative to other areas,” she said.
