HERENTALS have a social football club called Zvihuta FC.
The team’s coach, Fainos Madhumbu, who doubles as the Premiership side’s secretary-general, said they picked their name from the quail birds, which once took the country by storm, a few years ago.
The team consists of Herentals’ security staff, cheerleaders, construction workers, cleaners and the technical team.
They use Motor Action Sports Club as their home ground.
“We have an appreciation of the people who are helping the growth of our brand behind the scenes.
“We decided to form a boozers’ team for everyone within our stable as a way of fostering better working relationships,” said Madhumbu.
Zvihuta captain, Oliver “Ollaya” Chirenga, said their regular battles with their women’s team has made it a dominant force in the Women’s Football League.
Herentals Queens lead the women’s league table with 61 points from 22 fixtures.
Black Rhinos Queens are second with 52 points.
“I think our women’s team is benefiting more from this initiative.
“They are gaining a lot from playing regularly against our team.
“We play twice every week.”
Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva, the coach of the Herentals team, which play in the domestic Premiership, is a key player in the Zvihuta side.
“Football is a practical game, and it’s important that I also find time to play.
“Giving instructions to the players becomes easy because I can relate to most of the things they go through during the game,” said Mutiwekuziva.
