ARENO Sparkers FC have secured a sponsorship deal with Areno Bottle Store.
The Kuwadzana social league team was formed in 2012 at a local shebeen to cater for abundant talent in the high-density suburb.
They say the initiative brought a spark to their community, hence they settled for the name Sparkers.
The club’s secretary, Munyaradzi Chirere, said:
“We would visit a local bottle store called Areno after our games just to have fun with our opponents. The company’s owner then got fascinated with the love we showed to all visiting teams and he asked to sponsor our team.
“All this is happening because of alcohol and it’s unfortunate that people see nothing good in drinking beer, but for us it’s paying off.”
Areno Sparkers are one of the few social league teams who have sponsorship.
They are set to face Inter Stars from Mufakose this weekend.
