AS the saying goes, a couple that prays together stays together and this is the case with Tannyson Nkala (68) and Eliphine Ncube (62) from Esigodini in Matabeleland South province who met in church and have been together for 32 years.
The couple was blessed with four children, one passed on and they have five grandchildren. Nkala said he met his wife at the Brethren in Christ church in Esigodini.
“I met my wife in church when we left Bulawayo for Esigodini as youths to see the new church branch in Esigodini. It was at that moment when I spotted her among a number of youths and we fell in love. We started dating in 1992 and we got married in 1994,” he said.
Nkala indicated that the secret to a long lasting relationship was mutual respect and understanding.
“The key to our relationship has been mutual respect and love. This has seen us raise a wonderful family and live peacefully without any challenges because we are a team and we have always helped each other in everything,” he said.
Ncube said she knew that her husband was the one when she realised that he had all the traits that she prayed for.
“While l was a youth, l used to pray and tell God the different attributes that l wanted in a partner and l met my husband who is an understanding, faithful and loving person. I met him when l was mature because when we met, l was 30 and he was 36. Our relationship has been characterised by love and we have been working together as a team to take care of our children and send them to good schools,” she said.
Ncube said in their relationship they have always been supporting each other.
“My husband took an early retirement package in 2006 and focused on his farming business and we have been supporting each other and in cases where the business was low l have been pitching up to help in ensuring that we run our household,” she said.
She said the key to her successful marriage has been understanding and submission.
“The key to our successful marriage has been love and working together, these factors have played a huge role in our success. Submission has contributed immensely because as a woman l understand my role as a helper,” she said.
Ncube highlighted that a number of marriages fail because people get married to strangers.
“A number of marriages fail these days because people do not pray for their partners and most of them meet on social media and marry strangers. It is very important to research and know about your partner.
As a woman, you have to know his relatives and his marital status before committing or getting pregnant. A number of women tend to regret after wasting their time on a partner that has been unfaithful from the beginning of the relationship,” she said.
