IT was a parade of both colours and fashion as the real Harare Derby finally came to the National Sports Stadium on Sunday.
Thousands of fans converged at the country’s biggest stadium for the first episode of the showdown between the capital’s two biggest and most successful clubs. It was more than just a football match as the fans chose the grand occasion to come dressed in the colours of their favourite clubs.
In bright early winter sunshine, it was the perfect occasion for fans to come in their thousands and turn the giant stadium into a sea of blue, white and green colours.
By some sheer coincidence, the fashion parade was held on the same day that the Met Gala, the ultimate festival of fashion in the world, was held in New York City. While the dresses, which celebrities like Serena Williams wore at the Met Gala were of a different and premium design, compared to what fans brought to the giant stadium, one can’t fault the locals for trying, especially given the football theme of the Derby.
