‘A hungry man is an angry man! ‘ son kills chickens and burns huts in deadly tantrum over ‘little food’

A 26-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested after he killed chickens, burnt down two huts, and destroyed window panes in protest after saying his mother had given him small servings of food for supper.

In statement on X, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said “Bruce Mudarikwa (26) appeared before the Karoi Magistrates’ Court on malicious damage to property charges.

“On the 2nd of July 2022 an argument arose between the accused person and his mother, the complainant. The accused person complained of having been given little food the previous day. He turned violent, grabbed two live chickens and smashed them onto the ground. The chickens died instantly. He lit a kitchen hut and the fire spread to another hut. Both huts were burnt to ashes. He also took 21 chicks and trampled them to death before damaging eight window panes. The total value of the property damaged is US$1 652.”

He was sentenced to 12 months in prison, said the NPAZ.
