AN A-Level student is set to launch her second book, titled ‘When I Grow Up,’ at the Jason Mphepo Little Theatre in Eastlea on December 16.
Keith Marufu, from Hillside College in Harare, already has another book, titled ‘Leaves of Love,’ which was launched last year.
Marufu’s motivation for writing the book was to inspire the young generation.
She chose to write a memoir because she felt it would be more relatable to her peers than a memoir written by someone from a much earlier time period.
‘When I Grow Up’ focuses on Marufu’s childhood and dealing with issues such as divorce and trauma.
She believes that writing a memoir, at her age, is a transformative tool as it expresses her ability to tell her story.
“I knew if I wrote a book about my childhood, it would fit in with the current generation, we share the same.
“I wrote the book to communicate how life matters and how divorce can trigger trauma in children through my own lived reality,” she said.
The launch will feature performances by various artists and speakers, including Mambo Guru Watunhu, Mwana Wagidza, Arthur Marara and Dr Manners Musongelwa.
