SEVEN men ganged up to assault a man after a dispute over a vending table turned violent in Harare recently.
Luckmore Muchena was said to be in arrears, in the payment of vending fees, dating back to 2020.
He was attacked by Standby Chimbuto, Lucky Saidi, Tatenda Desmond, Pride Makoni, Tapiwa Desmond and others only identified as Tariro and Nyarai.
The seven appeared in court and were released on bail.
They are due to appear again in court on December 16.
Muchena has since applied for a peace order against the group.
Magistrate Sharon Mashavira granted Muchena the peace order.
“They all attacked me and I have a medical affidavit as proof,” said Muchena.
“Standby pushed me and I fell, then he grabbed me by the collar and attacked me with fists while Lucky was encouraging him to assault me.
“Pride picked up a stone and someone took it from him and he started assaulting me with fists.
“Tatenda kicked me.
“When we came from court, these guys shouted obscenities at me and I had to apply for a peace order.
“They are violent, I fear for my life.”
The group denied the accusations and said Muchena owed them money for using the vending table.
“He applied for a peace order to avoid paying the money he owes us,” said Standby.
“I did not harass him but he is the one who threatened to kill me when I told him to remove his things.
“When he was attacked I was not there.
“I was only present when he was asked about the rentals he owes us.”
Pride and Tariro said Muchena should just leave their vending table if he can’t pay for it.
