A new voice for Matabeleland South is born

LAST week, the Chronicle proudly launched the inaugural Matabeleland South edition — a dedicated platform designed to shine a light on a province too often spoken of only in passing, despite its immense potential.

This week, as we publish the second edition, the vision behind this initiative is already taking shape: to tell the full and unfolding story of Matabeleland South from a social, economic and political perspective, and to do so with consistency, depth and integrity.

Matabeleland South is a province rich in history and strategically positioned for growth. From Beitbridge — the nation’s busiest gateway — to the cattle ranching hubs, artisanal mining communities and burgeoning irrigation schemes, the province is alive with activity that deserves structured and continuous coverage.

Development here does not only occur in headline-grabbing projects; it is also found in the quiet determination of communities building schools, farmers adopting modern practices, young entrepreneurs forging new paths, and local leaders working to improve service delivery.

These are the stories that often slip through the cracks of national discourse, yet they shape livelihoods and reflect the real pulse of progress.

The Matabeleland South edition seeks to correct that imbalance. By foregrounding local development, we aim to give readers a panoramic view of the province’s transformation — the successes being recorded, the challenges that persist, and the opportunities that lie ahead.

In doing so, we hope to encourage accountability, stimulate meaningful dialogue and celebrate the resilience that defines the people of this region.

Every road rehabilitated, every dam constructed, every policy implemented, and every business that opens its doors contributes to a larger narrative of growth that deserves sustained attention.

But this edition is more than a mirror reflecting progress; it is also a bridge connecting communities, businesses and policymakers.

Development thrives when information flows freely, when achievements are acknowledged, and when gaps are openly examined.

By consistently spotlighting the province, we encourage a culture of transparency and shared responsibility among duty bearers and citizens alike.

We also inspire confidence among investors who seek reliable insights before committing their resources.
As we move forward, the Chronicle remains committed to telling Matabeleland South’s story with fairness, accuracy and depth.

Our pledge is to ensure that the province is not only seen, but understood; not only mentioned, but meaningfully represented.

We invite our readers, leaders and stakeholders to walk this journey with us – to share their stories, voice their concerns and celebrate their victories.

The momentum has begun, and the narrative of Matabeleland South is growing stronger.
Through this dedicated edition, we reaffirm our belief that every province deserves a platform, and every community deserves to be heard.
