A rendezvous with nature

Andrew Mangwarara

VICTORIA FALLS has always lived up to its reputation. The town itself exudes luxury. Upmarket shops line the avenues, their window displays marked by exquisite designer wares and glittering jewels. My ultimate destination, the A’zambezi River Lodge, promised to be the pinnacle of this opulence, and it did not disappoint.

The lodge is nestled imposingly on the banks of the mighty Zambezi River.

The thunderous roar of the nearby Victoria Falls, a natural wonder that draws pilgrims from across the globe, filled the air.

Stepping into the reception area, I was greeted by a mesmerising sight — a meticulously designed indoor waterfall.

Outside, lush green lawns stretch invitingly. Dotted here and there are indigenous cycads that give the place a distinctly Zimbabwean feel.

Sculptures were thoughtfully placed throughout the gardens, adding a touch of artistic eccentricity.

The guest rooms themselves have traditional thatched roofs that blend seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. Even the restaurant and bar have this natural aesthetic.

Several boats dock at the lodge, ready to pick up guests for wildlife adventures.

Towering palm trees sway gently in the breeze, whispering tales of faraway tropical paradises. Indigenous flora and fauna thrive within the lodge grounds.

Melodic calls of unseen birds fill the air, while the occasional glimpse of a wild pig or deer adds a touch of the unexpected.

The sparkling swimming pool and small ponds are a refreshing sight.

Brick pathways meander through the meticulously landscaped gardens, offering moments of peaceful reflection.

The lodge is not just a place to stay; it is an experience. Every detail, from the meticulously designed indoor waterfall to the wildlife sightings, is crafted to create a haven of tranquility and luxury.
