LAST weekend, I was privileged to visit a property in Milton Park, Harare, which belongs to Original Technology Holdings.
The company specialises in manufacturing, mining equipment, mechanical equipment and construction.
The firm’s garden is a unique tropical setting that demonstrates what an organisation can do when driven by passion.
The edges of the garden are marked by a manicured green Durban lawn and a corner bed where a rockery excites passersby.
By the entrance gate is another rockery, which is adorned with a couple of aloes.
The garden boasts a great arrangement of all kinds of shrubs.
The candelabra aloe (aloe arborescens), which usually flowers in June, is surprisingly in flower at this time of the year.
There is an old wooden bench that provides a relaxing hideout within the garden.
A pathway meanders into the garden, providing a good view of the whole area, while pots are dotted everywhere.
Since it is a tropical setting, many types of palm trees are found displaying their different shades of green.
A description of this garden cannot be complete without talking about the presence of a pond where the red and white goldfish are seen giving life to the still water.
The beautiful wild banana (strelitzia nicolai) beside the pond is perfectly matched with some garden chairs, providing a secluded sitting area for employees.
One notable plant in the garden, the fever tree (acacia xanthophloea), gives the place a true African feel.
The giant aloe (aloe excelsa) in the background is impressive, while stone sculptures of different designs lend a special feel to the landscape.
The company’s garden exhibits a lot of originality in terms of design.
It is refreshing to spend time in this environment.
