IT started with a video that has gone viral on social media — a woman’s tears, accusations of corporate misconduct and a storm which engulfed Gray Homes Construction.
Letwin Chitemere’s video, in which she claims she was allegedly duped in a disputed building project, went viral.
Chitemere claims she paid US$2,500 to Gray Homes for the construction of a kitchen — money she says disappeared with little to show for it.
Now, Gray Homes has broken its silence and its letter adds a dramatic twist to the saga.
Gray Homes insists the public narrative is distorted.
“Gray Homes Construction is committed to operating with integrity, transparency and professionalism in all client engagements,” the company said in a statement.
“The clients initially approached Gray Hones Construction requesting the installation of kitchen cupboards at their Kariba Round House property.
“Based on the scope of work communicated to us, our team proceeded with planning, preparation and logistical arrangements to attend to the installation.
“Upon further engagements and assessment, it became evident that the clients’ expectations were different from the initial request and extended to the construction of a full house within a budget of US$3,500.
“After initial evaluation, it was determined that such a project was not feasible within the proposed budget.”
The company added:
“In the spirit of transparency and professionalism, our team prepared and presented a revised quotation reflecting the actual cost required to undertake the project.
“The clients were advised that additional funding would be necessary to proceed beyond the US$2,500 already paid.
“Unfortunately, the clients indicated that they were unable to meet the required financial adjustments.
“Gray Homes wishes to firmly state that all engagements were conducted in good faith, with clear communication and professional guidance provided at every stage.
“We, therefore, find it concerning that misleading information has been shared publicly regarding this matter. As a company, we remain committed to ethical business practices and delivering quality services while protecting the integrity and reputation of our brand.
“The management will engage the client as soon as possible and resolve the issues.”
Online, though, emotions remain high.
