LOCAL empowerment lobby, Affirmative Action Group (AAG), is intensifying its investment campaign in China, to attract investors into various key sectors of Zimbabwe’s economy.

AAG recently convened a series of strategic meetings in Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province, China, where it engaged with prominent Chinese entrepreneurs and business leaders to discuss investment opportunities in Zimbabwe.

The deliberations focused on key sectors such as mining,  agriculture and construction, to attract foreign direct investment and promote economic cooperation between the two nations.

In a statement last week, AAG chief spokesperson and strategist, Mr Tawanda Dozva, said the group successfully promoted the Second Republic’s re-engagement and engagement drive in China.

“The meetings highlighted significant investment prospects in Zimbabwe, aligning with President Mnangagwa’s policy of re-engagement and economic revitalisation.

“Key sectors identified for collaboration included mining, agriculture, and construction, leveraging Zimbabwe’s abundant mineral resources such as lithium and copper, and its diverse agricultural products.”

The deliberations sought to foster a collaborative approach to promoting economic cooperation between Zimbabwe and China.

Some of the key participants included Mr Coulibaly Nathanael Melkisedek, vice-chairperson of the Guangdong Business Association and Mr OU Binbin, commission member of China Africa Youth Federation and head of the Guangdong branch, Mr Dozva, Ms Felisters Mutsakani Investment Promotion For Economic Development chairperson, and Mrs Tracy Huo, vice chairperson of Guangdong Business Association. Other key participants were Mr Bai Ningbo, public relations Department of Financial Development Research Society of Guangdong Province and Miss Natasha Tapiwa Chivhunga, a member of Investment Promotion For Economic Development.

The meeting was initiated by Mr Aaron Kwang Poon,  the chairperson of the Global Business Council. Mr Dozva said AAG plans to co-host a Zimbabwe investment promotion event in Guangzhou with the Guangdong Passenger Union in August, to further boost economic cooperation between the two countries.

“The meeting concluded with a commitment to strengthen economic ties between China and Zimbabwe through strategic initiatives and collaborative efforts,” Mr Dozva said.

“Proposed actions include co-hosting promotional events in Guangzhou to showcase Zimbabwean investment opportunities to a broader audience in China, expected around August. The meetings in Guangzhou underscored the shared commitment of stakeholders to enhance bilateral cooperation and explore new avenues for economic growth between China and Zimbabwe.

“By capitalising on identified business opportunities and fostering diplomatic relations, both nations aim to achieve mutual development and prosperity in key economic sectors.”
