MASHONALAND East Bowling Association bowler Aaron Chilundo impressed, in elite company, when he took on some of the country’s top bowlers to win the Fours title at the Zimbabwe Inter-Districts tournament at Avondale Bowling Club yesterday.
The Inter-Districts tournament was held over four days with teams from Mid-West, Matabeleland and Mashonaland East taking part.
On their way to victory, Chilundo’s side beat Matabeleland A 31-7 and Matabeleland B 23-22 in the Fours competition.
They were also successful against Mid-West sides who they defeated 27-12 and 25-15 to amass 12 points.
In the Trips, Chilundo’s side won three out of four matches.
They defeated Matabeleland A side 15-10 and went on to beat the Matabeleland A team 16-13.
Mashonaland B also beat Mid-West B team 20-6 but failed against Mid-West A, suffering a 16-8 defeat.
The Matabeleland side, however, were the overall winners of the tournament with a total of 66 points while the Mashonaland side settled for second position while Mid-West were third with 21 points.
The 17-year-old Chilundo, who is also member of Alexandra Sports Club, said he enjoyed all his games.
“It was a very good tournament and I enjoyed it. We played some of the country’s top players and for me to be in the side that beat these top bowlers, makes me feel great.
“I am glad to be given a chance to sharpen my skills in an exciting tournament like this one, the Bulawayo side was competitive but we beat them and it was a good experience for me,” Chilundo said.
Chilundo was the youngest bowler at the tournament and he played against top bowlers like Denis Streak and Jono Evans.
