At least 101 soldiers were awarded certificates last week after completing a 13-week course on general squad drill and small arms course at 2 Presidential Guard Battalion.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Colonel Hasha Mhlanga commended the students’ courage for completing the course.
“Today marks the end of the mental and the physical demands of the course as well as all other logistical challenges that you have been subjected to during your course, some of which were compounded by illegal economic sanctions imposed on our country by the British and their Western allies whose main agenda is that of effecting regime change,” he said.
The students covered subjects such as foot and arms drill and were complemented with packages of small arms and military civic education.
Colonel Mhlanga congratulated female soldiers who rose above gender stereotypes by managing to withstand the physical and mental demands of the course.
Lance Corporal Tafadzwa Mahachi emerged the overall best student.
