Abandoned pit claims lives of two children left home alone

Two children, aged 5 and 6, drowned in an abandoned pit while swimming with others after being left at home by their grandmother, who was attending a funeral.
In a post on X, the police stated that the incident occurred in Muradzikwa Village, Chipinge.
“The ZRP confirms a tragic incident in which two boys, aged 5 and 6, drowned in an abandoned pit filled with rainwater while swimming in Muradzikwa Village, Chipinge, on 24/02/25. The victims, along with their 7-year-old sister, had been left at home while their grandmother attended a funeral in the neighbourhood. The three children went to the nearby pit to swim, resulting in the tragic drowning of the two victims,” the police posted.
