Accapella lovers in for a treat

With gate charges pegged at US$7 per head and US$15 for a VIP ticket, this concert which starts at 6:30pm and finishes at 9:30pm will be a must-attend for anyone who enjoys the sound of African contemporary accapella gospel music.

Hosted by Shower Power, and dubbed “Festival of Praise 5”, the concert will feature some of Zimbabwe’s best accapella groups which include Shower Power, Unshaken, Stand, Experience and an all-female group, Breeze.

Contacted for comment, Shower Power’s executive director Mandikudze Sithole said this concert was an annual event and the fifth since its inception five years ago.
He said this “Festival of Praise 5” was a homecoming event which brought together groups and artistes from Zimbabwe and abroad to sing songs and praise God through music.

“This festival is a concept we started five years ago with an idea of bringing together many different gospel artistes or groups from the region and from all over Zimbabwe. It’s an annual event and a homecoming style of praise which includes a live DVD recording,” said Sithole.

There will also be something for those interested in choral music since the concert line-up includes a group named Power of Praise Choir, which performs choral praise songs with the accompaniment of instruments.

Perhaps many will enjoy the refreshing sounds of one of Zambia’s popular accapella groups, Heritage Brothers, which will give audiences a taste of Zambian accapella music, all in the spirit of praise and worship.

Sithole said the concert was open to all, and added that it was aimed at praising God through songs and celebrating his goodness.
“All are invited to our ‘Festival of Praise’ concert. We are praising God for all he has done for us. Shower Power is the organising group and we are bringing together all of Harare’s major acappella groups and the biggest from Zambia to give the audience the best as well as a wide variety in music,” said Sithole.

Full Band

He added that those who enjoyed Shower Power music should also expect a full band from his group and that Shower Power would perform songs from their latest album “The Journey” and others from their other eight albums.

“We will perform the hits from our latest album and others from the last eight albums. The whole team will be around,” he said.
Some of the songs to be expected from Shower Power include “Sermon in Shoes”, “Without Love”, “Topembera” and “Dear God”.

To date, Shower Power remains one of Zimbabwe’s most distinguished groups commanding a huge fan base both in Zimbabwe and abroad.
Since they released their latest album “The Journey”, the group has visited parts of the country such as Gweru and Bulawayo where they launched their album and additional concerts also lined up in countries such as Rwanda, Uganda, United Kingdom and Australia later this year.

“In May this year we will go on our East African tour starting with Rwanda and Uganda. We also have invitations to perform our songs in the UK and Australia in October this year,” said Sithole.

Added to this, Shower Power in March this year did Zimbabwe proud by scooping the Contemporary Acappella Recording Awards Best African Album award in the United States for their album “The Journey”, followed by another Zimbabwean acappella group, Stand whose album “Redeemed” came second.
