An accounts clerk with MA Auto Suppliers has appeared before the courts for allegedly converting US$3 500 of company money to her personal use.

Lorraine Mawema recently appeared before Harare magistrate Ms Lynne Chinzou charged with theft of trust property and was remanded out of custody to July 24 for trial.

The complainant in this matter is MA Auto Suppliers and is being represented by Vellah Christine (48), who is employed as the finance manager.

Prosecutor Mr Tinotenda Masimba alleges that on June 24 at around 8am, Mawema was ordered by finance manager Vellah Christine to remit all the cash that was in her custody, but she kept on delaying, making the manager suspicious.

The court heard that Mawema then confessed that she had used US$3 500 to buy a car that she was selling for a profit.

The finance manager reported the matter at Marlborough Police Station leading to Mawema’s arrest.

Total value stolen is US$3 500 and nothing was recovered.
