A man accused of instituting witch-hunts told a court that he was possessed by malevolent spirits when he conducted his purges because the spirit that normally channels through him is “disciplined”. “I must have been possessed by some other unknown evil spirits Your Worship, for Sekuru who usually possesses me could have never been up to such mischief,” pleaded Tazvitya Museza (26) of Hurungwe before magistrate Mrs Nyaradzo Ringisayi last Thursday; while answering to charges of labelling a woman a witch. Museza said he could not even identify the complainant, which he said meant he was under the control of an unfamiliar spirit.
“ . . . it must have been the work of some evil spirits Your Worship,” added Museza.
Prosecutor Mr Webster Dimingo told the court that on March 26 this year, Pamhidzai Zaina (26) and Museza went to Esteri Kado’s homestead at Buffalo Downs Compound and publicly accused her of possessing goblins.
Kado reported the matter to the police resulting in the arrest of the pair on the same day. Mrs Ringisayi ordered the two be examined by two doctors under the Mental Health Act.
Both were remanded to April 3 this year, with Museza in custody and Zaina out of custody.
