Reality TV series The Life of Ackim is set to finally premiere this August on Play Africa, a digital entertainment platform that allows users to stream shows and movies via its downloadable app.
The show is the brainchild of local fashion icon Ackim Bukhosi Tshuma, the founder of Creative Minds Talents House. It promises to offer an unfiltered glimpse into the highs and lows of his life journey while tackling pressing societal issues, most notably mental health.
Season one will feature 15 episodes, with a cast that includes students Lindokuhle Dube and Snow Denzel Kababo, photographer Brendon DMi, television presenter Thandolwenkosi Sibanda, members of Ackim’s family, and Ackim himself.

Speaking about the show, Ackim revealed that the inspiration stems from deeply personal experiences that mirror struggles faced by many young people in society today.
“One episode shows a very depressing period when I had to battle a powerful white community over my late father’s properties, something that took a serious toll on my mental health,” he said.
“It’s a true story, and it shows how friends and therapy helped me through. Many youths go through situations like these, and some even take their own lives. But I hope our stories will inspire them to speak out and never give up, even when facing powerful forces and limited resources.”
The Life of Ackim explores themes of perseverance, self-discovery, luxury, and love, all framed by the personal journeys of its cast. Ackim said the show aims to inspire young people by showing the real-life challenges behind seemingly glamorous lifestyles.
“While some episodes showcase luxury and love, they also reflect our hard work and struggles. We’re not all there yet in terms of success, but our stories show effort, ambition, and resilience,” he said.
Filming for the show took place in both Zimbabwe and South Africa, with locations including Bulawayo, Sandton, and Cape Town.
“This series is not just entertainment, it’s a message to the youth. Life isn’t always rosy, but we keep pushing. That’s what The Life of Ackim is about.”
