A sombre mood has descended upon the Macingwana Village in Ward 12 of Mangwe District as the community prepares to bid farewell to their departed leader, Acting Chief Wasi, born Nomhle ‘MaNdiweni’ Ngwenya.
She will be laid to rest at her homestead this Saturday, (15 August 2026). The burial service is expected to commence at 10am.
The traditional leader passed away on Tuesday at Plumtree District Hospital following a protracted illness.
Mangwe District Development Coordinator, Ms Matilda Mlotshwa, confirmed the death of the respected community figure.
The late MaNdiweni was the sister of the late Chief Wasi.
She dutifully served as Acting Chief from 2022 until May 2026, steering the community through a transitional period following the appointment of incoming substantive Chief, Khumo Ndiweni, whose installation is imminent.
Speaking on behalf of the bereaved family, Mr Wilson Ndiweni, a brother to the deceased’s father, confirmed the burial arrangements.
“MaNdiweni will be laid to rest at her homestead in Macingwana, Mangwe District, on Saturday the 15th, at around 10am,” said Mr Ndiweni.
When approached for further comment on the life and legacy of the late Acting Chief, Mr Ndiweni said the family was not in a position to elaborate at this time as they are still coming to terms with the profound loss.
