Zimdancehall heavyweight Winky D is set to bring a welcome burst of energy to the chilly Midlands capital when he stages his high-octane live performance in the city on Saturday tomorrow.
The highly anticipated show is expected to rank among the artist’s key annual appearances in Gweru, with fans eager to once again experience his trademark stagecraft and electrifying delivery.
For Winky D, the performance also presents another opportunity to test his latest project, One Big Party Extended Play (EP), on the live stage.
The Gaffa first introduced the project during a live performance in Victoria Falls last month, where revellers were thoroughly entertained and, by the end of the night, left with post show fatigue.
However, much of the spotlight in Gweru is expected to fall on fast-rising Zimdancehall star Jnr Pragga, whose latest release, Daka, is making waves nationwide.
The young chanter is expected to bring his own dynamic energy to the stage as he shares the bill with the dance hall legend.
The star-studded lineup will also feature Bling 4, Xibba, Nisha Ts, Bagga, Etherton B, and DJ Croxy, promising fans a diverse showcase of Zimbabwean urban music.
Winky D confirmed his appearance in a video clip circulating ahead of the event, urging his Gweru fans to come in numbers.
“Yes, Gweru, it’s that time again. The Gaffa and the Vigi, we gonna be live at Gweru Sports Club this coming Saturday. Let’s link up and drink up. It’s gonna be mad. I’m coming!”
The announcement has heightened anticipation among Gweru partygoers, with the show expected to provide a much-needed musical escape from the city’s unusually cold spell.
Promoter Chipaz Promotions said preparations had been finalised and urged fans to turn out in large numbers for what is expected to be one of the city’s major entertainment events.
“Everything is set for Saturday. There is an impressive lineup of artists, all ready to deliver stellar performances,” the promoter said.
“I would like to encourage fans to come in their numbers and enjoy a memorable night experience.”
Gweru is bracing for a night where music and dancing are set to take centre stage above the cold weather.
“We’ve been kept in doors because of the current cold spell, and Saturday it time to go out to attend the not to miss show,” said a fan who identified herself as Becky.
“You know Winky D usually appears in Gweru once a year around this time, so there are no second thoughts about attending the show whatever the skies may hold,” another fan Nkosy said.
