The message followed the assistance South Sudan got from Zimbabwe during its liberation struggle and the support that Juba continues to receive from Harare.
Speaking to journalists after meeting Acting President Mujuru at her Munhumutapa Offices, Dr Benjamin said he handed over a letter to the Acting President with a special message from President Salva Kiir Mayardit.
“I am happy to be back here in Zimbabwe but this time I am here as a special envoy sent by my President leading a delegation of five senior government officials,” he said
“I have come here to thank President Mugabe and the Government of Zimbabwe for the assistance they gave during and after our independence.
“We are happy that President Muga-be came to our independence celebrations. I have come with a letter spelling out what our president wants to share with you and the security situation in South Sudan. I handed the letter to the Acting President for her to deliver it to President Mugabe when he comes back from leave.”
Dr Benjamin said the letter also chronicled the role being played by the African Union in ensuring that Sudan owns up to the implementation of agreed issues such as border demarcations and sharing of oil proceeds between the two countries.
“My president wanted to bring knowledge to President Mugabe on these developments,” he said.
He said Juba wants to co-operate with Harare in all sectors among them security, education, health and agriculture among others.
Dr Benjamin called for the setting up of ministerial commissions betw-een Zimbabwe and Sudan to operationalise agreed positions.
He said he had a fruitful meeting with the Acting President adding that he used his visit to meet some of his friends in Zimbabwe. Before coming to Zimbabwe the South Sudan delegation was also in South Africa where they delivered a message to the South African government. Acting Foreign Affairs Minister Nicholas Goche also attended the meeting.
