Heavy Industry and Public Enterprises Mr Harbhajan Singh and HMT chairman and managing director Mr Sangi Sridhar yesterday, Acting President Mujuru said the project had helped to promote technological transfer in the country.
The Indian delegation is in the country to assess the performance of the project which has 17 centres in the country.
“Your Excellency, your intervention has promoted technology transfer as well as giving practical oriented training in computer numerically controlled designing machining,” said Acting President Mujuru.
“This has been lacking in Zimbabwe. This project is turning out to be the building base for training Zimbabweans in machine tools thus strengthening our skills in setting up SMEs.”
Acting President Mujuru said HMT had expressed its interest to co-operate with the Government of Zimbabwe in other areas of economic development.
She said it was important to note that HMT was specialising in areas that deal with the ordinary people.
Cde Mujuru said Zimbabwe welcomes such initiatives as they helped to develop people economically.
“Political dignity itself is not enough,” she said. “HMT is looking on how they can work with Zimbabweans for them to be productive and not only to produce for themselves but also to produce for export.”
Cde Mujuru said it was important to upgrade established centres of the Indo-Zimbabwe Project to reap maximum benefits for the SMEs.
Mr Sridhar said they had a fruitful meeting with the Acting President and the centres they had established were already operational.
“We have established 17 centres and Zimbabweans are already making use of them. We want to see more SMEs benefiting from these centres.”
Small to Medium Enterprises Permanent Secretary Ms Eveline Ndlovu said the Indo-Zimbabwe project was producing various components that were vital to the SME sector.
After meeting the Indian delegation, Acting President Mujuru met World Vision Southern Africa Regional leader Ms Rudo Kwaramba who expressed her organisation’s commitment to enhancing the well being of Zimbabweans.
